The Pet Design Challenge Results Are In: Meet MistiKitty and DrillerBot

Over 10 million students, across hundreds of thousands of classrooms, use Boddle. The magic we created is that students actually love learning with us, often even asking for more work. Debates about the best pets are scattered across YouTube, and we’ve built a real community, on both sides of the dry erase board.

We wanted to give that community a chance to shape something real. We decided to hand students a blank template and one big question: what should the next Boddle pet be? They did not disappoint.

Over 950 entries came in from students across the country. Each one was a fully imagined creature, with its own look, evolutions, and abilities. Some were fierce, some were silly. Most were so brilliant that they raised the bar for what we thought was possible. To everyone who joined in the challenge, we celebrate you and your accomplishments.

🌟 25 Students Rose to the Top

Narrowing down to just 25 finalists was a process. Creative submissions were circling around our internal community channels for months, bringing a smile to our faces. We looked at the visual design; we looked at the unique evolutions, and the creativity behind the abilities. Finally, we had our list of finalists, and these students earned everyone in their class several months of free Boddle premium.

🏆 And Two Designs Won

From those 25 finalists, we debated across teams which design deserved to make it into the game. We even crowdsourced opinions through online polls. In the end, two pets rose above the rest, worthy to live on forever as the strongest category of pets in Boddle. The masterful students behind these designs won 10,000 Boddle Bucks, free Premium for their whole class, and a place in Boddle history.

🎨 From Sketch to Screen

Once the winning designs were selected, the real work began. Our art team took each student's original drawing and used it as the foundation for every design decision, working through multiple rounds of concept art to get as close to the student's vision as possible.

From there, our game team took over, building out each pet's talents and abilities. Our team put a lot of care into this process, doing our best to do justice to the hard work of some of our biggest fans.

🌟 This Is Just the Beginning

Boddle is proving that standards-aligned curriculum can be absolutely fun, sparking student participation above and beyond the classroom. We're so grateful to every teacher who made space for this in their classroom, and to every student who took it seriously enough to really go for it.
